Back to Thanksgiving in March…

What are you thankful or grateful for?

This question came to mind just yesterday as I was laying on the floor of my living room – unable to get up off the floor…

The story started just 3 days ago…

After moving some furniture in the yard and inside our house,

 

I felt a slight ache in my lower back.

I’ve hurt my back lifting heavy things in the past and didn’t think much of it.

In fact, I did one of my quick HIT Neuromass workouts the day after without any trouble.

But…

Yesterday I was raking leaves. I was mindful about my posture and form while raking applying the “two thumbs up” technique that helps keep the back upright.

As you can guess by now, I felt some pain in my back. It spasmed and locked up a bit.

.

My ego still told me it wasn’t a big deal.

But big enough deal to stop raking.

So I made coffee and went about my day.

As I planned my work for the day,

 

I wrote out one thing I was grateful for:

Mobility

I wanted to calm my mind so I went upstairs to look for my coherence training / biofeedback device in the living room drawer.

As I leaned forward and bent over the drawer, my back again spasmed and locked.

But this time the pain was so intense that

 

I dropped to the floor.

I was immobilized on all fours in the living room for more than 10 minutes when I finally decided to call my girlfriend to help me out.

She was just outside preparing her restaurant for the day…so she came in and got me a mat to lay on.

During the more than 3 hours I spent immobilized on the floor,

 

I had some interesting insights:

I generally take my health and mobility for granted.

I know many other people suffer from mobility and pain issues on a regular (and sometimes constant) basis.

And I came back to this thought:

I’m grateful for my health and more specifically my mobility.

 

Thus “Thanksgiving in March”

I’m giving thanks for my health…

and my gift was the realization that many others suffer…that we all suffer…

and it can help to accept that pain and suffering.

Easter Egg Hunt

Okay, it may not seem quite as fun as hunting for Easter eggs but…

I’m hunting for REAL chicken eggs.

That’s right…

We have chickens – again!

Three hens and one rooster.

It’s great to see the eggs coming in every day! I set up a black soldier fly (BSF) larvae bin with our food scraps so that the BSF grubs can eat, grow, crawl out, become food for our chickens, and

our chickens then lay nutritious eggs!

But sometimes I don’t see the eggs in the nest…

So I have to hunt for them around the chicken run.

Like Easter – but the eggs aren’t chocolate on the inside!

Escaping Pollution

I talk and share quite a bit about the pollution problem here in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand and beyond.

Today – just one day after throwing my back out – I’m on my way to escape the pollution.

We’re heading south to Samui and Phangan islands where I look forward to taking off my mask, breathing cleaner air, and exercising outdoors again!

On the topic of breathing…

This is what makes me angry. Breathing and breathwork are so POWERFUL yet so misunderstand – even though people have been explaining for centuries how breathing wrong causes so many problems and breathing right makes us so much more healthy!

Instead of learning and embracing breathwork, we keep sweeping it under the rug and forgetting about it. We look to modern allopathic medicine to solve all of our health problems. And it comes up short. Over. And over again.
