The rain is coming down harder and harder as my surroundings turn increasingly more and more dark from the cloud cover. The sprawl and development of the big city of Bangkok has given way to thick fields of green bushes and various agriculture.

I’m on my way to Koh Chang, an island off the southern coast of Thailand and I”m accompanied by three other friends. We all met at a couple of different health/wellness conferences in 2017 – Paleo f(x) and the Ancestral Health Symposium.

The drive from Bangkok to Koh Chang is about 5-7 hours. I’m not sure because I heard different reports from different people.

I’m awake now typing this in my journal because the conversations with friends have tapered off and I still have a bit of energy from the giant breakfast with two cups of regular coffee. I’m used to decaf so I’ve extended my morning uptick in cortisol levels that’s giving me more energy.

So far the I’ve spent a day in Bangkok and spent about as much time experiencing the seemingly chaotic traffic as we taxied across town as we did checking out the top tourist destination in Bangkok: the Reclining Buddha, the longest Buddha in Thailand (and perhaps beyond?). The place was a bit more touristy than I would like but it was good to check out some Buddhist temples, architecture and artwork.

I would have to say that the highlight yesterday was dinner at a restaurant called Quince. The food was a great match for our paleo-centric tastes. I ate chicken liver pate, bone marrow, and lamb. Yes, there were veggies as well but they were not as appetizing as the meats.

That’s all for now. Next stop: Koh Chang.
